For spring break 2007, we—my parents and I—opted for a domestic trip. Given the early dates—the last week in March—we looked for a southern destination. We considered possibilities from Florida to southern California. We had visited many of these places before; however none of us had been to west Texas or Big Bend National Park. After a bit of research, we decided to fly into San Antonio, rent an SUV, and drive to Big Bend. From San Antonio west, the landscape changes dramatically—hillier with sparser vegetation—until one finally reaches the Chihuahuan desert of the Big Bend country. On the way we stopped overnight in Del Rio and made a quick visit to Mexico. At the end of our week, we took a detour north to the Davis Mountains. Finally, we visited San Antonio, enjoying the sights of one of America’s most-visited cities. Below are a few photographs selected from the hundreds that we took.

The narration that follows was written by Norm. The pictures were mostly taken by Norm; the rest were taken by Jeff and Pat.  —Jeff
