![]() Ah, the inimitable Jon Larson. I'm not sure where the bow tie came from, but the hat is Hertzler's, obviously. Are the socks his? The look says it all. I remember Jon and I spent a good deal of the Halloween party outside, talking about some important issue, or so it seemed to us at the time. Of course, the highlight of the night for me was escorting my wife, Lady Edwina Mountbatten. |
![]() I don't remember exactly where this was. It is perhaps on our way to Elephanta Island in Mumbai? The sign on the left is a pretty good clue. Note Pat, Chris, Amy, and Rachel in the background. Who is buying something at the vendo stand? Don? |
![]() Four grubby guys, after about 20 hours in a little van through the back roads of India. This was just after we got to our hotel in Tekkady. This location is the farthest south I have ever been on the globe. The next morning we took a boat tour in the park with Aditya's relatives. I think this is where we saw the people from Semester at Sea, but I could be wrong. |
![]() Hostel Three. My favorite accommodations anywhere on the planet. Dave, Tom, Aditya, and I stayed here, after raising our hands to volunteer—for what we did not know. I remember the cold morning showers with sandalwood soap. What a great smell! It was simple. It was perfect. |
![]() The classroom at the ECC, right next door to the dining hall. Oh how I miss Bil crackers and tea. About half of us seem to be wearing those blue denim shirts that were so popular at the time. |
![]() Derek, in his typical pose. Whities talk about something, as puzzled native children look on. Keith takes a break from chasing the kids. |
![]() Fatepur Sikri—a city built by Akbar the Great, but never really lived in, supposedly because there wasn't a good water source. My memory is that we all found this place a worthy complement to the other main site on our agenda that day—the Taj Mahal. Do you remember the guy who dove into that pit of green water, for a few tourist rupees? |
![]() The Halloween party at the ECC. Lady Mountbatten (sans husband), a yokel, a traveler, and the Mahatma. Our young friend on the right appears to be enjoying the fruits of bobbing for apples. |
